Our disappearing rainforests

Well, after all those blog posts about artificial intelligence, it seems about time to get back to the natural world for a while! In today’s blog post, we’re going to look at the disappearing rainforest and what it might mean for the human world. Did you know that, thanks, to harvesting, land clearing for farms, and even changing temperatures due to global warming (heating of the planet due to human pollution), rainforests are disappearing at an alarming rate? Scientists think that if we keep damaging them, the rainforests will disappear by the year 2050. That’s just around the corner! Okay, that’s interesting, but why should we be worried about this? Aren’t rainforests found halfway around the world? It’s true that most rainforests are found in the tropics and subtropics, for example in Africa and South America. But some are also found closer to home. Rainforests can also be found off the west coast of the US and Canada.

Why is it important to protect the rainforests? Rainforests are home to many different forms of life. There are more types of plants and animals living in rainforests than anywhere else on Earth. If the rainforests are destroyed, these organisms will be gone as well. It is important to protect these plants and animals for their own sake, but they are very important to humans too. Would you believe that 25% of all the medications human beings use are from the plants found in the rainforests? This means that if the rainforests are endangered, human beings are also in trouble. These forests help keep us healthy, so why aren’t we helping them survive? That’s a good question. But many people around the world are working to protect the rainforests. Search “protect rainforests” on the Net to see what they are up to these days and how you can help!
