Super Goats!
Has all the war taking place on our planet really got your goat these days? Think it’s a bahhhhd scene? You may be surprised to hear that goats may be the answer to disarming one of modern war’s most dangerous weapons—nerve gas! How is this possible? If you’ve read the recent posts on GMOs (genetically modified organisms, organisms that are altered by changing their hereditary material, known as DNA), you may have already guessed the answer. If you guessed that goats are being genetically engineered to make an antidote (something that stops the affects of a poison), you are right. Where does this genetic material come from? Human beings! It turns out that humans had the antidote in their blood all along, but only a very tiny amount of it. By using goats, larger amounts can be made, enough to save lives.
But how are goats making this antidote? The answer is in their milk! Yup, regular farm goats are have been genetically modified to produce an antidote for deadly nerve poisons! Does this mean that in the future, a glass of milk could save the lives of countless soldiers? Even regular people who are caught up in the deadly game of war? Well, a glass of milk wouldn’t be that easy to carry around or to send to soldiers overseas. Instead, the antidote is taken from the milk and made into a pill or drug that a person can easily take if a nerve gas strike occurs. The government could also hand out the drug if they think citizens (everyday people, like you and me) are in danger. But let’s hope that the drug is never needed in that way and our world will soon be at peace. Science can provide a lot of answers when it comes to war, but an even better answer is peace!
