Science Project Hint #2

For those of you eagerly awaiting Science Project Hint #2 (I know you’re out there!), here it is. What kind of brilliant tip is in store for you this week? This week’s tip is on the incredibly exciting topic of creating a display.  Yup, it doesn’t get much more exciting that this folks… okay, it does get more exciting, but giant, submarine-attacking octopuses will be in tomorrow’s blog (so stay tuned)! Okay, back to the science project tip of the week. How do you create a display that will WOW a crowd, not to mention the judges? The trick here is to grab the audience’s attention, but not overwhelm them. You want people to think “Wow! Look at this cool project!?” You don’t want them to think “Wow! I should have brought my sunglasses!” Try to stay away from neon and other bright colors that take the focus from your work. Bright colors are good, but just a few touches do the trick. Remember, the focus should be on your project.

Another great idea is to add a little further interest that is related to your topic. For example, if your project is on birds, add feathers to your display and provide a key or labels that identify which bird each feather is from. Doing a project on volcanoes? Draw a map of the Pacific Rim showing all the volcanoes. Provide information that gives the name of the volcano, when it last erupted, and if it is still active. These sorts of displays get people involved with your project, which is exactly what you want. They also make the judges remember your project (in a good way!) when it is time to hand out the awards. You might also want to provide few props that people can touch, smell, or interact with some way. Remember, anything that gets people involved with your display is a good thing!
